Applications and experience

Flare drums and flare headers

Scope of Work:

Remove residual hydrocarbon, H2S & pyrophoric material prior to vessel entry for mechanical works & inspection.

ProDecon® Method:

Two successive fully flooded decontamination washes at a target temperature followed by a cold water rinse/flush

Chemistry used:

LDP-88™ (ProDecon® Decontamination Chemistry).  Cacl2 to fracture the temporary emulsion on route to the ProDecon mobile wastewater treatment tanks.

Safety performance:

Commended in site audits. No incidents, no lost time first aid, no reported near misses

Environmental performance:

Excellent.

Following initial treatment with Cacl2 and processing through ProDecon’s Mobile Waste Water Treatment Unit, the effluent was analysed by client, found to be compliant and was released for metered discharge to the VBU sump with no adverse environmental impact.

Customer verified results:

References may be available on request. The following comments are taken from client witnessed Completion Report.

Vessel pre-entry checks:

Zero H2S, Zero LEL, Zero CO and no hydrocarbons.

Vessel internals:

The cleanliness of the vessel internals was noted to be very good. The walls were very clean with only residual water present.  There was as expected a small amount of sludge lying on the bottom of the vessel and in the boot, but this was mobile, gas free and was easily washed away.

It was noted that there was less residual chemical odour and no complaints regarding irritation, from those working inside the vessel, as compared to when other decontamination chemistry was used. There were no issues with interference to sampling / monitoring equipment, which has caused vessel entry delays in the past, when other decontamination chemistry was used.
